How on earth are you going to write an AI that does all that? I mean, GW1 falls over itself pathfinding on a trivial static 2D world.

I am fairly sure that GW2 wont feature static enemies that don't know how to walk, and pets and companions need to be able to move too.
Thus, devs need to create pathing algorithm for their engine anyway, and it should be decent one if they don't want to create tons of exploits with it. GW1s pathing is not great (see: corner tanking), but it works decently. It works well enough to be comfortable way to move.
As far as interactive obstacles are concerned, ai must be able to pass them (or else be mercilessly exploited). Its not like whole world will be indiana-jones style dungeon and people can be ok with the fact that you clicked-to-move character stops moving when ai does not find any way to move to target.
Of course, i can be wrong and GW2 ai would consist only from stationary turret-paragons placed in devious mazes and most of content needing to be accessed by platform-jumper manner.

I use...
WASD keys to move, click on NPCs if I'm lazy.
1-8 for skills, I use 1-5 via keyboard and click 6-8 (because I don't touch those often, you'll see why soon).
Skill setup: Res always 8, while my power heals and spammable skills are on 1, except for builds like SS (Arcane Echo 1, SS 2). At most I try to set my skills offensive/defensive (1-4 offensive, 5-7 defense, 8 res) on my warrior and paragon. Any enchantment or stances I have to maintain on myself and last longer goes beside the res (HBoon, attunements, Mantra of resolve etc)... except when I run 55 (spammables skills!).
F1-F4 are to change equipments, F5-F8 are for heroes, rest is the default setup.

I WASD to move and hold shit/ctrl to see all enemies/objects in the area, I usually hold the right mouse button to look around all the time for chests or enemies I might have missed.
I click on the skills to use them, rather than using the numbers.

In combat; 1234 for my primary/attack/healing skills, click 5678 for longer casting/secondary/rez skills, use Tab and "C" to select targets.
In movement; I have a trackball for facing maneuvers, W and R for moving, usually holding the Ctrl and Alt to find chests, hidden pop-ups, and enemies.
I mouse click to go "long distances" and the trackball to scan the area around me.
I know it sounds confusing, but it works for me.

I usually click skills. Long time ago I tried few weeks using numbers for skills and kept mispressing all the time. It just isn't my thing.
When moving I keep right mousebutton to rotate, press R to move forward when there is no enemies in sight and otherwise use WASD to move/strafe.

Well, I think there is considerably more leeway granted to mob movements than PC movements, which have to be very responsive. At the very least you'd have to be continuously replanning, which is hard mathematically and computationally. Even a game like HL2 with excellent path planning had cheese out tactics where you could get the combine stuck behind a bit of debris and crowbar them to death. But your point is taken.
How about another problem: in a world with three dimensions, a mouse click does not unambiguously indicate a location. In the 2D world of GW, one would project of a ray cast to infinity onto the ground and then go to the first point of intersection, but in 3D it is not clear whether you mean the ground or the point in mid air.

WASD (and QE, for diagonals of course)
1-8 for skills.
the numpad for my party, when monking.
0 on the numpad for closest item.
i'm oldschool enough to view using a mouse as "lazy-man's-computing" so i've changed a lot of the defaults to be more friendly to my hands. without checking settings i can't tell you what all is what anymore....
all the display settings are set to smaller than they were default, the various popup text boxes are turned off (NPC chats, mission objectives, etc) and i've moved some of them a little.

I activate skills with 1234QWER, and move and select party members with the mouse. I'm a monk, and severely right-handed, so I need a setup where my left fingers don't need to move around much.
GW2 is going to be 3D, so I've resigned myself to being a newbie all over again. I'll work out a system for the GW2 interface when I have it before me.

i can actually explain that "clicking on skills is for noobs" thing. try monking. seriously - it's about nervous reflex speed. you can hit faster with your fingers on the keys than by moving your whole wrist to hit the skills.
that, and anyone old enough to remember when a "mouse" was brand new and odd, will have far better keyboard skills than mouse skills.
but mostly it comes down to reflex - i can combo my 1-8 and numpad far faster than anyone could mouse the same setup. think about it - i've hit two keys, one to select a party member, one to use a skill. using a mouse, you've got to move to the window, click the member, move to the skillbar and click the skill. if seconds count, mousing will lose, every time.

and if you have better reflexes with clicking the mouse? I'm sorry, but i think it all comes down to personal preference...and i really dislike "only noobs do that comments"

I never use WASD to move but always use the mouse. Indeed, if anything keeps me from playing GW2 it will be that they have decided to drop mouse movement from it. Just too old and stubborn to mess with changing how I use the keyboard (I use my my left hand to activate skills with the numbers).

I use wasd, 1-8, my layout is completely altered to my liking as i feel like the gw screen is very cluttered so i have moved everything to the edges. I have also turned off most of those popup panes that annoy you in mish/quests

When I move I usually:
- Hit R and direct with A,F and the right mouse button.
- Hit and hold the left mouse button, and then hit and hold the right ouse button to move.
- Use the WADS.
I activate the skills with both the mouse and the keys.
When I monk, I click the health bars.
To target enemies I click in their names or their skill activation icons.
